Background
As the end of each reporting period approaches, teachers are prompted to complete a report card sheet for each class or subject area that is included in your school's report card. The following article demonstrates how to complete a report card sheet and submit it to the office, where it can be reviewed and then printed or published to parents and students within Edsby.
Video Overview
Filling out report cards
A Report Card button appears on your Home screen in Edsby for each of your classes prior to a report card deadline:
Your report card sheets can also be accessed at any time using the Report Card link inside the class:,
Entering student grades
The report card shows a row for each student. Depending on your school policy, your report card may include a term grade, attendance history, comments, and/or additional fields such as participation and effort that can be filled in.
In most cases, Edsby shows the calculated average for each student, presented in light-gray text:
To accept the calculated average as the grade for a student, click in a cell and press the space bar on your keyboard. Note that arrow keys on the keyboard may also be used to navigate the report card, allowing you to quickly fill in grades.
You may also manually enter an alternate grade for any student, overriding the calculated average.
Green arrows indicate a grade is more than the calculated average. Red arrows indicate a grade is less than the calculated average. Arrows appear when the grade and calculated average differ by more than 1%.
A yellow exclamation point is displayed if the grade differs from the calculated average by 5% or more.
Complete the report by filling in the all fields. Note that for drop-down lists you may type the first letter of a list option on the keyboard, rather than using the on-screen selector.
Entering comments
In some cases you may be prompted to provide a written comment for your students. Depending on your school policies, you may be permitted to enter comments directly, or you may be provided a drop-down list of comments from a comment bank.
When writing comments, Edsby provides an indicator showing number of characters remaining:
Fill
The Fill button may be used to copy a mark or comment from any student to other students in the report card sheet:
When clicking the Fill button, a pop-up window will be presented allowing you to confirm the information you are filling, including the destination cells where the content will be filled.
Note that for comments, Edsby detects names and pronouns, and will provide automatic substitution in the filled cells:
Field substitution allows you to quickly generate comments like these:
Submit to office
Once you complete the report card, click Submit to Office. If any mandatory cells have not been completed, Edsby will highlight those and prevent submission until they are filled in.
Your work is always saved in real-time, allowing you to leave the report card and come back to continue at any time.
Submitting to office does not immediately share report card information with students or parents. The report card sheet you submit must be reviewed and confirmed by a school administrator before it is published online or printed and mailed.
Tips & Tricks
Updating report cards after submission
Until the due date, you can make changes to the report card by clicking Unlock for Editing.
Once you’ve completed your changes, click Resubmit to office.
Reviewing student details
If you want to review a student's work to help in determining a grade, you can open the student’s Perspective by clicking on the student's name.
Reviewing included assessments
Prior to entering student grades, you may want to review the assessments that comprise the calculated grade. To see which summative assessments are included in the reporting period, click Show Assessments.
The default list includes any summative assessment that has a date within the reporting date range. To exclude any assessment from this report card, hover over the date and click Exclude.
Edsby will also inform you of any summative assessments that do not have a Due Date.
You may view and change these assessments to assign a date if you want them to be part of the calculated grade. To do so, click Edit Assessment List. To include an assessment in the report card, hover over the date area and click Include.
