Background
Users with Senior Admin privileges may change passwords for any local staff, student or parent account in the school. Passwords for local accounts are always changed through your account login at https://twine.edsby.com/
Note that in some cases staff and/or student accounts for your school may be configured to log in using Google or Office365 credentials. If this is the case for your school, those passwords should be managed in the external system rather than locally within Twine.
Finding Accounts
The first step to changing any password is to find the target account within Edsby (twine.edsby.com). This can be accomplished any number of ways, including the Search widget, or encountering the user name in a message or a post in a group or classroom. For Senior Admins, a quick and reliable way to find a user is to open the Students, Staff, or Parents lists along the right side of the Home page:
Within the list (also referred to as a "Zoom") you can quickly Filter based on name, email, or other fields to find the account you want:
Changing Staff Passwords
After finding a target account in the Staff Zoom, click a user's name to open the Details page for that user:
On the Details page, find the Information panel on the right, and click the "pop-out" icon in the upper right corner of the panel:
On the Edit Information screen that appears, click the Reset Password button:
You'll be prompted to enter the new password for the end-user twice, and your password once. Fill in these fields and click Save to assign the new password.
Edsby password restrictions included:
- must be at least 8 characters in length
- can support the inclusion of special characters (e.g. “#%*”) but not require one
- can support upper and lower case but not require one of each
- cannot contain more than two repeating sequential characters (e.g. “aaa” will not work)
- cannot contain more than three ascending/descending characters in a row (e.g. “1234” or “abcd”)
- prohibits the use of commonly used passwords (e.g. “password”)
Changing Student Passwords
Note: Any teacher may reset passwords for students enrolled in their classes.
After finding a target student account in the Student Zoom, click the user's name to open the Panorama page for that student.
Along the left side of the Student Panorama you'll find the Reset Password button:
After clicking Reset Password, you'll be prompted to enter the new password for the end-user twice, and your password once. Fill in these fields and click Save to assign the new password.
Changing Parent Passwords
Note that any parent with a valid email address should be able to utilize the "Can't Log in" link from the login page to reset their own password. Even so, there may be times when you will want to manually assign or change a parent password.
After finding the target parent account in the Parent Zoom, click the user's name to open the Panorama page for that parent:
Along the left side of the Parent Details page you'll find the Reset Password button:
After clicking Reset Password, you'll be prompted to enter the new password for the end-user twice, and your password once. Fill in these fields and click Save to assign the new password.
