Setup of report card templates is the last phase of deployment for the core Edsby/Twine feature set.
Schools with subscriptions that include the Communications or Web & Admissions packages will continue to work with their onboarding specialist to deploy those tools.
Designing your report card
Report cards are customized for the needs of each school, and will always include your school details, your school crest or logo, and the data and structure that you select.
We generally begin from one of 5 starter templates, adjusting the specifics to match your requirements.
Report card data & layout
Every template allows you to adjust the following parameters:
- Number of reporting periods: Most schools present four quarters or three trimesters, but you may choose to present information only from the current reporting period, or for two semesters, or for any number of terms.
- Averages: On multi-term report cards some schools like to present an annual average across terms.
- Attendance: Attendance may be reported per-class or as an overall number per-student for the term, depending on how attendance is taken by your school. Some schools choose to report both absences and lates, while others report absences only or omit attendance completely.
- Grades: Academic grades may be presented as percentage, as letter representations (for example, A, B, C, etc.), or both.
- Comments: Comments may be provided per-class or as an overall comment applying to the student generally. For multi-term report cards you may choose to present comments from all terms, or you can present only the current comment if desired.
- Comment banks: If desired, a set of pre-defined comments may be specified rather than free-form text written by each teacher.
- Additional attributes: Many schools ask teachers to report on attributes such as responsibility, effort, class participation, etc. These attributes may be presented per-class, or presented once per report card in a separate table.
- Reporting scales: It is common for report cards to include multiple reporting scales. For example academic grades may be presented as A, B, C, etc. while behavior might be a numeric scale of 1-4, or a scale of Outstanding, Satisfactory, and Needs Improvement.
- Signature lines: Some schools like to include signature lines for administrators, teachers, and in some cases for parent acknowledgement. You may choose to include some, all, or none of these.
Starting Templates
The 5 starting templates below can be adapted with all the data & layout adjustments described previously. Choose a template that is closest to what you want to achieve, and we can adjust the layout for each of the data parameters, resulting in a report card suited specifically to your needs.
