Background
In some schools classes occur on a rotating schedule of days (i.e. Day 1, Day 2, Day 3) that don't map to specific days of the week. This article describes how to configure your school calendar in Twine to specify day types that could occur in any pattern.
Video Overview
Reviewing defined blocks and class periods
- Login to TwineSIS at https://sis.choosetwine.com.
- To see the block days and bell periods defined for your school, navigate from the side menu and select School Setup > Periods.
- Use the Periods dashboard to view and verify details about your class schedule.
- Block schedule configuration requires:
- Separate Periods for each period on each of the block days
- Unique Titles for every period (so you can distinguish between them in drop down menus on other screens)
- Assigned Block, Start, and End Time for each period
In the above example, the school uses a block schedule consisting of 3 alternating days (Day 1, Day 2, and Day 3) with Periods 1-6 on each day, for a total of 18 unique periods. For each period, the admin has designated the Start, End Time, and Block. The admin chose unique Titles for each period that indicates both the period and block.
Setting up your calendar
- To assign block days on your calendar, navigate from the side menu and select School Setup > Calendars.
- Days when school is in session are shown in green; days when school is closed are shown in pink. If required, update the status by clicking on the check box area to toggle the check mark on or off.
- Use the drop down menu to assign block days (Days 1 to 3 in this example) to each day school is in session.
- Click Save to apply changes.
Assigning a schedule to classes
Now that you have set up your block rotation, you can set up the schedule for each of your classes.
- From the side navigation select Scheduling > Courses.
- Select the Subject (1), Course (2), and Class Period (3) to open the period of interest.
- Clear any incorrect course periods by deselecting all Meeting Days. Click Save.
- To add a new schedule, click the New Period link.
- A new row will appear, allowing you to select a Period from a drop-down list. Select which Day / Period you would like to assign to that class.
Note: When using a block schedule, the Meeting Days checkboxes are not relevant, and should be left in their default states. - Click Save to apply changes.
